Valentino’s Favorite Rome Trattoria…Al Moro (ours too!)

Friday, April 24th, 2009

If you keep track of what’s playing the movies you’ve noticed “Valentino: Last Emperor” a small independent documentary about one of Italy’s greatest fashion designers.   In an effort — one presumes — to hype the film, Valentino is interviewed in the most recent Departures “The World According To”column.  Besides his observations on shoes, scented candles and watches,  ”Sr. Garavani”, as he is known by the Italian postal service, reveals his personal favorite amongst Rome’s many great restaurants.

The winner according to Valentino is Al Moro, and his favorite dish: pasta carbonara.  Al Moro which just happens to be an A&B recommended haunt is now in its 80th year. Its a difficult-to-locate place behind the Trevi Fountain.  Run by Franco, the son of founding father Moro, this trattoria serves some of the most authentic specialties in Rome, including crispy baby goat roasted with fresh rosemary and fried artichokes. Closed Sundays  and all of August.  Open: Mon-Sat 1-3:30pm and 7:30-11:30pm. Accepts MC and Visa. Reservations required. Address: Vicolo delle Bollette, 13; Tel #06-6783495.
