For This Gucci, A Different Take on Cowhide?

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

A recent issue of Harper’s Bazaar profiled the new creative director at Gucci. As with many Italian companies, even multinationals, management stays in the family. So it was no surprise that this design post was filled by Frida Giannini nee Gucci, the 33 year-old heiress. She is described in the piece waxing on about her art collection of Brancusi and Modigliani, her taste stationery (Smythson of Bond Street), her favorite fragrance (Penhaligon’s Quercus) and even her signature flower (White Tulip). However, what was most revealing about this style queen was found in the shot of her apartment’s floor coverings: there in a this 15th century Palazzo were two cowhide rugs displayed across the living room! Italian chic cum Lonesome Dove. Go figure.
